Yamaha has long been known for making high quality keyboard actions that are very rugged and road worth. In fact, we supply keyboard actions to Korg for many of their products.

The Motif 6 and 7 have the same synth action keyboard (called an FS action ) as the Yamaha EX5, DX7, and the Korg M1. O1/W, Wavestation, Trinity, Triton and Triton Pro.

The Korg Karma is a lighter Fatar action.

The Motif 8 action is a newly designed action based on the Graded Hammer action found on more expensive Clavinovas, the P80 and P200.

The Balanced Hammer Action on Motif 8 is the same physical mechanism as the P Series. On the P200/P80 Graded Action there is a weight which varies across the keyboard. This accurately reproduces the feeling of an acoustic piano. Because there are a lot of synth, organ and string sounds on Motif, instead of changing the weight across the keyboard , one weight was selected that seemed to play the best for a wide variety of sounds. Even more important, this is the first time this action has been available with aftertouch .

The Yamaha S80 (and Triton Pro X) use an action that is also used on less expensive Clavinovas called the AE action. It is slightly lighter than the Balanced Hammer action on the Motif 8. The QS8 and Kurzweil are both Fatar actions.
