“神经”合成器参加2004雅典奥运会!
Neuron at the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Greece
Let us look back just a few weeks: The No.1 sports event of 2004, the olympic games, are starting up in their ancient homeland of Greece (official homepage of the olympic games / 2004). Athletes from all over the world come together to celebrate this peaceful test of strength between 202 nations.
Also on the tracks: Neuron. Adding to the experience of the spectacular opening ceremony. The typical sound of the neural sound engine is clearly audible throughout the whole event. Every time the camera turns through another spectacular sweep over the illuminated stadium, it is supported dramatically by Neuron's sonic clusters and atmospheres.
Months before the event, "Jack Morton / Public Events" (www.jackmorton.com) approached Hartmann with a request by Greece's top composer and producer Nikos Patrelakis, who was commissioned to write music for the opening and closing ceremonies of the olympic games. Nikos wanted a Neuron for his compositions. At Hartmann, we are happy and proud for having the chance to be part of the games by supplying Nikos with a Neuron synthesizer for his fantastic compositions.

A view into David's studio
When developing a musical instrument, there´s always a vision of certain sonic aesthetics that keep you moving on. David Sylvian is one artist, whose music Neuron seems to be made for.
David's compositions are characterised by his musical sensitivity and a very personal, "pictorial" feeling for sound. He is a true artist whose zenith never seems to be eclipsed.

Manfred Mann test-drives the Neuron
He is one of the most renowned keyboard players in the world. And the way he plays and performs was and still is exemplary for many keyboarders. During his European tour we had the honour of welcoming Manfred Mann to our premises in Ravensburg, Southern Germany. Manfred first got in touch with the instrument at a store in London, where he was fascinated by a particular sound on the Neuron.
"Neuron does have a really good sounding filter. Besides that, the instrument offers the opportunity to merge sound in a way that opens up a very usable sound spectrum. For my way of performing, realtime control over the sound is one very important feature. While soloing with my right hand, I use my left hand to change and control the sound of the machine. With Neuron I can drive up to four parameters simultaneously with each of the controllers to the left of the keyboard and this fits in perfectly with the way I play."
Manfred intensively tested the Neuron - and this side by side with a Moog Voyager®* as sparring partner. "Analog filters - depending on the setting - do have the peculiarity to fade out thin within a certain keyboard range. This is exactly where Neuron opens up a new perspective by merging sound or parts of sounds through the Resynators and the Blender.
Manfred, many thanks for your visit! At Hartmann, in the upcoming weeks we will work intensively on a Solosynth Soundset that - inspired by Manfred's way of playing and performing - may open up a new side of neural network synthesis.
